Special Olympics of Delaware County is a self-funded subsidiary of Special Olympics of Ohio, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. There is no fee to participate - the cost of uniforms, team equipment, and other expenses associated with training our athletes is funded through the generous donations of the community and various fundraisers held throughout the year.
Special Olympics began in the early 1960’s, Ohio’s involvement began in the late 1960’s and SODC became involved in the 1970’s. We currently offer 12 sports to over 200 athletes and continue to grow. Spring Sports offered are track and field, bocce, tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, and powerlifting. Fall sports include golf, soccer, swimming, bowling, basketball, and cheerleading.
Our athletes attend practices locally and many area and State events including the incredible Ohio State Summer Games at Ohio State University.
